It was absolutely no contest in deciding this award as Max Verstappen stormed onto the Formula 1 scene, silencing many naysayers, establishing his name at the pinnacle fo the sport - and it is one we are going to hear for many years to come.
Much was made about the Dutch teenager who was groomed all the way to the pinnacle of the sport by his hardcore father Jos Verstappen - himself once a Formula 1 driver. But every headline, every report,every feature, every interview was deserving as seldom in the history of the sport has one driver made such an impact in his rookie season.
The young man who was karting in 2013, made his FP1 debut in 2014 and landed a Toro Rosso race seat in 2015. The kid is in Formula 1 for the long term, and like him or not his father Jos has a firm hand on his son's career and right now his decisions cannot be faulted.
Behind the scenes the big teams are tripping over themselves to have a piece of Max in the future, apparently a Ferrari deal is already inked...
Whatever the case young Verstappen was one of the ballsy-est drivers of 2015, in years to come we will always gasp at the near miss he had at Monaco ,smile in admiration for the move he pulled at Spa-Francorchamps and nod our heads in respect as we replay the Interlagos highlights - and this is just his beginning.
Max arrived on the Formula 1 scene with a bang and with it he blew fresh air into a stale paddock - for all these reasons he was the unquestionable Rookie of the Year, and boy was he close to nabbing the Driver of the Year title too!
