Let's get this straight: Spa-Francorchamps would typically win every Track of the Year award and our readers made that point quite clear in the poll, but we went the emotional route and Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez gets the award this time around.
Sure the 2015 Mexican Grand Prix was in the end a boring race, there was very little grip on the new track surface and the title race was already decided - so why this decision?
Because Mexico returned to the Formula 1 calendar with a bang! Fans made the race an unforgettable spectacle as they crowded into the renovated facility named after their greatest racing heroes.
They sang, they danced and of course they did the Mexican wave on numerous occasions, throughout the weekend. The atmosphere was electric, the excitement palpable and provided a glimpse of what Formula 1 can be for fans.
This was all far removed from the clinical and austere atmosphere of the nouveau establishments where the emphasis is on Paddock Club freebie snobs, rather than the die-hard paying fans in the stands.
The podium celebration in the 'cauldron' - a baseball stadium - packed with passion was a stroke of genius, crowning a weekend which gave the new generation of Formula 1 fans a glimpse into what the sport was like before it became a made for TV thing.
Apologies for overriding our readers sentiments on this one, but Mexico for us was a deserving choice for this accolade.
