At the end of 2014 Sebastian Vettel surprised all by departing Red Bull and move to Ferrari, in the wake of a season in which he was bettered by teammate Daniel Ricciardo.
Vettel took flak for a below par season by those who attributed his four back-to-back titles as a fluke and a result of being in the right car at the right time.
Many questioned Vettel's ability to adapt to a less aero dependent Formula 1, and doubted his move to Ferrari would be a success.
A year down the line and the German has defied his critics, silenced them for sure as he re-established himself as one of the preeminent drivers of this era.
Against the odds, and amid a dominant year for Mercedes, Vettel won three times as he established himself as the new leader at Ferrari and with it igniting ambitions that could see Ferrari and Mercedes go toe-to-toe in 2016.
He has energised a Ferrari team which desperately needed a revival and looks like a long term asset for the Italian outfit which is now intent on recapturing the glory years. Those first three victories are no doubt the catalyst that has inspired all at Maranello.
Hard to believe we are writing this but here goes: it was great to see the Vettel one-finger salute back on the top step of the podium!
