Today was a historic one for the career of Lewis Hamilton as he united with Ferrari, after two decades with Mercedes and a year-long separation, he has finally completed laps with the great Italian team.
After Tuesday's meet and greet at Maranello, the 40-year-old Briton had his first outing on a misty Wednesday morning, realising his dream of driving for the Scuderia. Hamilton drove out of the garage at 09:16 Maranello time in the 2023 Ferrari SF-23.
A substantial crowd of tifosi gathered trackside to witness history through the fence first-hand while cheering on the seven-time F1 World Champion. Their newest driver.
With his helmet painted yellow of the
Scuderia's famous Prancing Horse emblem, and a Ferrari carrying his #44 for the first time, Hamilton drove out to a roar from the gathered crowd (estimated at 1,000+ fans braving the cold) who he acknowledged with a wave when driving past.
Thereafter he embarked on what the Ferrari team described as part of his “immersion programme to help him get up to speed with operations and prepping for the 2025 campaign ahead. Below is a selection of images as Hamilton went about testing an older F1 car at Ferrari's own Fiorano test circuit.
