John Elkann summed it up as aptly as possible: "Lewis is Ferrari. It's as if he's always been part of Ferrari."

With those words, the Scuderia's chairman welcomed the seven-time F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton to Maranello, marking the start of a new era for Ferrari. It was a moment that inexplicably but palpably had all the hallmarks of a grand homecoming.
But it’s more than just a warm welcome—it’s the beginning of a high-stakes gamble that could reshape the future of Formula 1.
In the eyes of many, Elkann, often criticised for lacking the flair of Luca di Montezemolo’s era, has done the impossible. He’s pulled off the boldest move in the history of the sport, signing the most decorated driver in F1’s history to the sport's greatest team, just as Ferrari faces its greatest challenge in over a decade.
The signing of Hamilton by Elkann marks a seismic shift in the team’s fortunes—both in terms of performance and image. The Maranello faithful, who’ve watched the Italian team struggle to reclaim the throne, now have a renewed sense of optimism.
Hamilton’s move to Ferrari—officially confirmed less than a year ago—has set the stage for one of the most anticipated F1 seasons in history. For the first time in the modern era, we’ll see the sport’s most successful driver of all time don the iconic red overalls and take on the challenge of dethroning Max Verstappen.

Hamilton versus Leclerc

But as any F1 fan knows, the first task on Hamilton’s to-do list will be to take on his Ferrari teammate, Charles Leclerc.
Let’s not sugarcoat it. This isn't just about Hamilton versus Verstappen. It's about Hamilton and Leclerc—two of the most talented drivers in the sport—competing against one another. If we rewind just a few seasons, we saw how Leclerc went toe-to-toe with Ferrari's previous mainstay, Sebastian Vettel. Hamilton’s entry into the fold means Leclerc’s biggest test will now come from within his own team. If he can beat Hamilton, there’s nothing stopping him from fighting for the world title.
And let's talk about Hamilton himself. The Briton, fresh off a disappointing final year with Mercedes, is no longer the undisputed king of F1. In 2024, he finished P7—a humbling statistic for someone with 104 pole positions and 105 Grand Prix victories.
But in Ferrari, he’s found new hope. In Maranello, a team desperate for success, he’s once again got a car under him that could fight for the championship. It’s a last-ditch effort for Hamilton to find that elusive eighth title, and in his pursuit, he’ll take no prisoners.
For Leclerc, however, this is a pivotal moment in his career. He’s entering his sixth season with Ferrari—no longer the young prodigy but a battle-tested driver with an ever-growing reputation.

Are Ferrari on the cusp of something special again?

Third in the 2024 F1 World Championship standings, just behind Verstappen and Lando Norris, Leclerc is poised to be the main challenger to Red Bull's dominance. Yet, his biggest test is still at home. Ferrari’s internal battle could be just as fierce as the one against Verstappen’s Red Bull.
Looking ahead to 2025, there’s a sense that Ferrari might just be on the cusp of something special. The team’s resurgence in 2024—finishing a mere 14 points behind McLaren—suggests that they could finally have the car to challenge the all-conquering Red Bull. But will it be enough to satisfy both Hamilton and Leclerc?
One thing is certain: the rivalry between Hamilton and Leclerc will be nothing short of electrifying. While Sir Lewis' experience could give him the upper hand, Charles' hunger for the title and his previous form make him a force to be reckoned with. It’s a fight for supremacy at Ferrari.
F1 stats show that Enzo Ferrari's team have won 16 F1 Constructors' titles and 15 Drivers' titles. But have not won any 'Big F1 Trophy' since 2008. Their drivers have collectively won 258 Grand Prix wins from 253 pole position starts. Unmatched by any other team.
For the 2025 F1 season, there’s never been a better time to be a Ferrari tifosi. And with Hamilton and Leclerc leading the charge, the Maranello legend is ready to write its next great chapter. Thank you, Mr. John Elkann, for making it happen!
