The top four Formula 1 teams, Ferrari, Mercedes, McLaren, and Red Bull Racing, are all expected to contend for the Title in 2026, but former driver-turned-pundit Martin Brundle says none of them is a clear favorite.
Each of the teams under the "big four" label has shown certain strengths in preseason testing, be it reliability, pace, or innovation.
Mercedes impressed with their overall package in terms of reliability and pace, while Red Bull Racing have successfully delivered a reliable first-ever F1 power unit.
Ferrari have been reliable and fast with some tricks up their sleeves with their innovative rear wing as an example, while McLaren, the reigning Champions, have been solid as well.
But each of these teams was also keen to play down its chances ahead of the season-opening Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne while also claiming its rivals have an advantage in a clear effort to divert the attention towards the others.
Mercedes
are talking up Red Bull Racing's chances, while
McLaren believe Ferrari and Mercedes are ahead as the F1 games of smoke and mirrors go on.
But Brundle was wary of picking one team over the other; when asked about the pecking order, he said: "I see Ferrari being strong; I see both Ferrari drivers [Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc] being strong.
"I think both McLaren drivers will be strong as well. Oscar [Piastri] will come back on a mission after what he learned last year; Lando [Norris], I don't think I've ever seen him yet not with that big grin on his face so far this year; he's just got that comfort now.
"The Red Bull looks really strong, and we know how Max [Verstappen]'s car control, which you'll need with these cars, will be incredible.
"So, for me, there's not a clear favourite," Brundle, a veteran of 158 F1 races, concluded.
