The war of words surrounding Max Verstappen's future has taken another dramatic turn after Jos Verstappen branded Martin Brundle "another idiot" over explosive claims that Team Verstappen helped tear Red Bull apart from within.
Brundle alleged the Verstappen camp played a central role in the departures of several of Red Bull's most influential figures, prompting an immediate and furious response from the Dutchman's father on social media.
The exchange comes as uncertainty continues to surround Max Verstappen's future beyond 2026. While Red Bull wants assurances the
four-time Formula 1 world champion will remain with the team, Verstappen has so far kept his options open.
His manager, Raymond Vermeulen, has previously insisted Max's preference is to finish his career at Red Bull, provided the team can continue delivering a race-winning car.
Speaking on Sky F1, Brundle said it was only natural for Verstappen's representatives to explore alternative options given his status as Formula 1's leading driver: "There are the four leading teams: Mercedes, Ferrari, McLaren, and Red Bull.
"Your job as a driver's representative is to explore the options, and a team principal's job is to do the same. Max Verstappen is, in my opinion, the best driver on the grid right now. He's still the fastest, the most consistent, and the one who makes the fewest mistakes," Brundle pointed out.
Team Verstappen torpedoed Red Bull's management
Brundle then delivered a remarkable assessment of Red Bull's recent upheaval: "Team Verstappen wanted to torpedo Red Bull's management, and they did it very well. They started with Christian (Horner) and from there they've continued down the same path.
"Then Adrian Newey, Helmut Marko, and Jonathan Wheatley followed. And now we know that
Paul Monaghan is leaving Red Bull. I think Team Verstappen did too good a job trying to get rid of some people at Red Bull," brundle reported.
Jos Verstappen wasted little time responding, dismissing Brundle's comments with a blunt message posted on social media: "Another idiot who thinks he knows what he is."
Whether Brundle's claims have any substance or not, they underline the growing perception that Red Bull's internal struggles and Verstappen's future have become increasingly intertwined.
With speculation continuing to link Verstappen to rival teams, and Red Bull still rebuilding following the departures of several senior figures, the debate over who is really responsible for the team's turmoil shows no sign of ending.
However the question still remains, did Team Verstappen destroy the hand that fed them four Formula 1 world titles? Thwew answer to that might reveale the real idiot in this sideshow.
