Formula 1 will have no races in April after the cancellation of the 2026 Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix due to the war raging in the Middle East. Pirelli, however, will conduct tyre tests.
As such, with the
2026 Japanese Grand Prix now complete, the next time the F1 cars will hit the track in anger will be in the United States for the Miami Grand Prix scheduled for May 1-3.
And while there were talks that the break would be useful for the sport's management, teams, and the governing FIA to have a look at the new regulations with the feedback of three races now available, some teams will be busy doing some tyre tests for Pirelli.
GrandPrix247 reported on Thursday that Formula One Management, the FIA, and Grand Prix Drivers' Association (GPDA) have held a meeting to discuss the situation. We have no idea about the outcome of that meeting yet.
Pirelli introduced new tyres for the 2026 F1 season, which remain 18" in diameter but are narrower both at the front, by 25 mm, and at the back, by 30 mm.
The Italian manufacturer will deliver five compounds in 2026: C1, C2, C3, C4, and C5, while there will be no C6 compound, which was available in 2025.
Pirelli will use the break in April to run some tyre tests as part of their development program.
First Red Bull Racing and Racing Bulls conducted a wet tyre test at Suzuka on Tuesday and Wednesday following the race with Isack Hadjar, Liam Lawson, and Arvid Lindblad—who reportedly crashed—doing the driving.
Next, Ferrari will conduct a wet-tyre test at their Fiorano track on April 9 and 10, while Mercedes and McLaren will take part in a dry-tyre test at the Nürburgring on April 14-15. F1 last raced at the Nurburgring in 2020.
F1 racing will return in Miami, which will be a Sprint weekend.
