Pirelli has confirmed a major leadership change within its Motorsport Business Unit on the eve of the 2026 Formula 1 season, with Dario Marrafuschi set to replace Mario Isola as Head of Motorsport from 1 March.
Isola will remain in place until 1 July to support what the company described as a smooth and effective transition. He will then leave Pirelli to pursue new professional challenges, bringing to a close a long tenure at the helm of its high profile racing division.
The move comes at a pivotal time for Formula 1 and global motorsport, with technical regulation changes on the horizon and increasing emphasis on sustainability and new mobility.
Marrafuschi steps up after long Pirelli career
Marrafuschi joined Pirelli in 2008 and brings significant experience from within the company. He has worked extensively in Formula 1 within the Research and Development department and in recent years has led the development of Pirelli’s road products portfolio.
Like Isola, Marrafuschi will report directly to Giovanni Tronchetti Provera, Executive Vice President of Sustainability, New Mobility and Motorsport.
His appointment signals continuity at a time when Pirelli continues to supply tyres to Formula 1, Formula 2, Formula 3 and a range of international championships, balancing performance demands with increasing sustainability targets.
Isola thanked for dedication and passion
Pirelli paid tribute to Isola for his contribution to the growth of the Motorsport Business Unit during his time in charge.
The company stated that it wished to thank Mario Isola for the dedication and great passion with which he contributed to the expansion and success of its motorsport activities over the years.
Isola has been one of the most recognisable figures in the Formula 1 paddock during Pirelli’s modern era as the sport’s sole tyre supplier. His departure marks the end of a significant chapter for both Pirelli and Formula 1, with Marrafuschi now tasked with leading the next phase of the company’s motorsport strategy.
