It is no secret that most teams, although still in the thick of the 2016 Formula 1 season, have significant resources invested in developing their cars for next season - when a raft of new rules are set to kick in and possibly level the playing field - Red Bull, for one, are targeting top spot in the sport's pecking order once again.
Marko said of the team's 2017 programme, "We are on schedule. The numbers that the engineers are finding look very good... Of course the track will give the final answer. But as our clear objective is to beat Mercedes, next year the numbers better be good!"
Despite the shift of focus in the Milton Keynes factory, the team are still on track and determined to beat Ferrari in this year's contest.
"I am pretty confident. It will be an interesting battle between us and Ferrari. Of course our intention is to win that battle," declared Marko.
To do this the energy drinks outfit will go head-to-head with Sebastian Vettel, the driver who led Red Bull to four back-too-back world titles during their golden era not so long ago.
Marko does not underestimate their former driver, "Seb was unlucky this year. He could have won races is what I guess. He will make his way. What I can say is that he is a fantastic driver and for sure he will do anything to make Ferrari win again."
No doubt a boost for Red Bull, and Renault for that matter, is the fact that Toro Rosso will ditch Ferrari power and return to the fold, "We try to have as much [synergy] as possible - first of all for cost reasons and then for performance reasons."
"Whatever the regulations permit we will do - probably not to the full extent next year as Toro Rosso cannot work as quickly as Red Bull Racing, but I expect that this will change over a period of two years," added Marko.
