Max Verstappen suffered from another bizarre crash during the 2026 British Grand Prix while running in P3 and revealed it was a car problem that caused it, claiming he was fed up.
The four-time
Formula 1 Champion leaves Silverstone a frustrated man after a DNF was caused by his Red Bull Racing RB22's rear wing not closing properly while going into Stowe corner, which sent him into the gravel trap just one week after he crashed in Qualifying in Austria for the same reason.
But Verstappen's problems started earlier in the British Grand Prix weekend as his RB22 was misbehaving despite the Austria upgrade showing improvement. He also had issues with his power unit, so bad that he wanted to change the setup after Qualifying even if that meant a pit lane start.
That did not happen, and when asked about the reasons, Verstappen said: "You have to ask the team.
"I would much rather have started from the pitlane because the race was exactly the same. I told them: 'We'll just see the same thing again in the race'. And that's exactly what happened, just like in qualifying," he added.
However, Verstappen, up until his crash, was having a decent race, in contention for a podium and slugging it out with Lewis Hamilton and George Russell and managing to fend them off.
He explained: "We were lucky, of course, with everything that happened around me—with the penalty for Lewis, a slow puncture for George, Kimi's problem.
"Even if we would have finished on the podium, I mean, you take it, but it's not deserved at all. Because on the hard tyres, we were really slow. I don't know how I kept George and Lewis behind for so long.
"The whole weekend I had a terrible balance, no top speed compared to the other car in the garage as well. And then the race was exactly the same, which I already predicted."
When asked about his crash, Verstappen revealed: "It was like Austria. A different fault, let's say, but the same outcome.
"So again, while turning into the corner, the rear wing is not fully attaching. And you lose a lot of downforce because of that. You just spin off the track.
"Well, at that point it's super dangerous, because you can really hurt yourself, two times. I was lucky in Austria, I was lucky here, but that's why you get really fed up with it," Verstappen concluded. (Reporting by Agnes Carlier)
