Max Verstappen, fresh from securing his fourth Formula 1 World Championship, has taken delivery of his latest indulgence: a $15-million GranSport 33 yacht from the prestigious Mangusta series.
Unleash the Lion, reflects Verstappen personal motto and embodies his penchant for luxury and performance.
The yacht’s launch took place discreetly at the Overmarine shipyard in Viareggio, Italy. Verstappen and his partner Kelly Piquet attended the event alongside a small entourage, keeping a low profile amidst tight security and a carefully managed operation to maintain privacy.
The GranSport 33, measuring 33 meters in length, boasts cutting-edge technology, opulent interiors, and bespoke customization tailored to the Dutchman’s specifications.
Verstappen commissioned the yacht two years ago, but its arrival coincides fittingly with his fourth consecutive world championship. The number 33, which happens to adorn the yacht and align with Verstappen’s usual race number, adds a personal touch - only substituted by the #1 plate when he competes as the reigning champion.
The Unleash the Lion
The launch event in Viareggio was deliberately understated. With shipyard personnel under strict instructions to remain tight-lipped and heightened security measures in place, Verstappen’s new acquisition slipped into the water with minimal fanfare but maximum sophistication.
While it is unclear if the yacht marks a personal reward for yet another stellar season in Formula 1, the purchase underscores 27-year-old Verstappen’s huge earnings from Red Bull said to be
worth $60-million per year.
