Alpine emerged fastest in Thursday afternoon practice for the TotalEnergies 6 Hours of Spa Francorchamps, locking out the top two positions in Hypercar during the second FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) session of the weekend.
Jules Gounon topped the
90 minute FP2 session with a best lap of 2:01.816 in the #36 Alpine A424 he shares with Frédéric Makowiecki and Victor Martins, giving the French manufacturer its first ever one two in a FIA WEC Hypercar session.
The sister #35 Alpine, driven by António Félix da Costa, Charles Milesi and Ferdinand Habsburg, completed the formation after posting a 2:02.090 benchmark around the 7.004km Belgian circuit.
BMW M Team WRT continued its encouraging Spa form by placing third with the #20 Hypercar of Robin Frijns, René Rast and Sheldon van der Linde. The sister #15 BMW ended the session fifth as the local squad showcased the updated look of its prototype.
Splitting the BMW entries was the leading Heart of Racing Aston Martin Valkyrie. Marco Sørensen delivered the quickest Aston Martin lap in the #009 entry, while the sister #007 machine finished eighth despite running with only two drivers this weekend.
Ferrari, which topped FP1 earlier in the day through the #50 AF Corse 499P, dropped to sixth in the afternoon running as the Italian manufacturer continued preparations for a Spa repeat after its 2025 victory. The #83 AF Corse Ferrari claimed ninth.
Toyota appeared less competitive on outright pace despite winning the season opener at Imola last month. The #7 TOYOTA GAZOO Racing entry rounded out the top 10 after struggling to match the Alpine benchmark.
Barrichello puts Aston Martin on top in LMGT3
The session was interrupted twice by red flags. The first stoppage came for track clearance procedures, while the second followed an incident for the #78 Akkodis ASP Team Lexus LMGT3 machine driven by Tom Van Rompuy.
Peugeot also focused heavily on long run work during FP2, with the #94 9X8 ending the session seventh overall.
In LMGT3, Eduardo Barrichello led the category for Heart of Racing Aston Martin on his return to FIA WEC competition.
The Brazilian posted a 2:17.769 in the #23 Aston Martin Vantage he shares with Gray Newell and Jonny Adam, finishing 0.202 clear of the field.
However, Newell later received a five minute stop and go penalty for repeated track limits violations late in the session.
Racing Team Turkey by TF Sport continued its strong Spa pace by finishing second with the #34 Corvette, although it too was handed a five minute stop and go penalty for track abuse offences.
Third went to the #79 Iron Lynx Mercedes AMG of Matteo Cressoni, Lin Hodenius and Johannes Zelger.
The #21 VISTA AF Corse Ferrari again showed promising pace in fourth as Simon Mann, François Hériau and Alessio Rovera targeted consecutive Spa victories following their 2025 success.
Akkodis ASP Team rounded out the top six with both Lexus RC F LMGT3 entries, although the session ended dramatically when Van Rompuy lost a wheel from the #78 machine in sector three, triggering the final red flag.
