Max Verstappen would dearly love to test a MotoGP motorcycle but has been told by his bosses there is no way that it will happen, despite some very handy opportunities available to the Red Bull Formula 1 star.
Speaking at a recent Exact sponsor event, "I would love to try out on two wheels, but I'm not allowed to do it. I have a Harley-Davidson."
"But when I asked the team if I could try a MotoGP bike because Red Bull is a sponsor there as well, with both KTM and Honda, and we have a race track, the Red Bull Ring. But their response was firm: too dangerous."
Although racing legend John Surtees remains the only man to win top-flight titles on both two and four wheels, MotoGP drivers have flirted with a crossover most famously Valentino Rossi and Ferrari over a decade ago, but none have made the step let alone seriously contemplate it.
Nevertheless, earlier this year Red Bull arranged a Formula 1 test at the Red Bull Ring for Honda riders Marc Márquez and Dani Pedrosa.
Last year Verstappen gave an indication of his two-wheel wish, "I would like to test a MotoGP. When I was eight years old I used to race around as much on the two as on four wheels, I really enjoyed it."
"It was a bit more dangerous, of course, but I would definitely like to try it. MotoGP is a different world but I like the feeling of being close to the ground with my knees when I turn," added the 21-year-old Dutchman.
