Some interesting opinions from our readers on a wide range of subjects regarding the current state of Formula 1.
The Alfa-Romeo poll generated over 8000 respondents and thus broke all records since we started this popular feature on our website.
By the way please feel free to submit poll question suggestions here>>>
What is best for the future of Formula 1?
  • Normally aspirated engines (75%, 419 Votes)
  • Hybrid turbo power units (25%, 142 Votes)
Total Voters: 561
Our Verdict: It seems pretty clear that this new era hybrid turbo power unit plus gizmos and appendages have not captured the imagination of race fans. To be honest we are on the fence with this one and can point out that they are fine pieces of engineering but at the same time do relate to those screeching banshee V10s that are sorely missed.
However the question we ask is: Had Ferrari and Renault got their sums right with their PUs from the very start, instead of only winning six races between them and Mercedes 32 in the past two years, and all three engine builders had shared victories, let's say 12 to Ferrari, 13 to Renault and 13 to Mercedes over this period and also each grand prix weekend was open to any of them winning - then would the power units be such an issue?
Furthermore we will stick our necks out and say that if there was a return to a V10 era Mercedes would still build the best engine....

Who should Red Bull promote for 2017 and beyond?
  • Max Verstappen (51%, 415 Votes)
  • Carlos Sainz (49%, 396 Votes)
Total Voters: 811
Our Verdict: Interesting that while Max has been grabbing all the hype, Carlos has been toiling away in the shadows getting the job done and obviously earning the respect of our readers.

What team will it be for Max in 2017?
  • Red Bull (77%, 271 Votes)
  • Ferrari (18%, 63 Votes)
  • Mercedes (5%, 18 Votes)
Total Voters: 352
Our Verdict: Red Bull would be foolish to allow Max to move to one of the other top teams any time soon. The are likely to hang on to him as they did with a certain Sebastian Vettel and only allow him to leave the nest when he has delivered and then only way in the future.
Let's be honest Daddy Jos is playing the game to ensure his lad gets a huge paycheck wherever he moves next and thus start recouping the huge investment made in the teenager's karting career to get him to where he is right now.

Is Fernando Alonso still one of the top drivers on the F1 grid?
  • Yes (86%, 541 Votes)
  • No (14%, 85 Votes)
Total Voters: 626
Our Verdict: Despite the downs that Fernando has endured, since his decline at Ferrari, fans still rate him as a top gun. Enough said.

Alfa-Romeo return to Formula 1 will be:
  • Good for the sport (89%, 7,117 Votes)
  • Make no difference (11%, 844 Votes)
  • Bad for the sport (0%, 73 Votes)
Total Voters: 8,034
Our Verdict: This one went viral! Clearly Alfa-Romeo is a brand that fires up the passions among F1 fans. A proud history in Formula 1, plus the close relation to Ferrari is perhaps a contributed to the number of voters generated by this particular poll.
Mr Marchionne need only look here to see that a foray back into F1 by the four leaf clover would be a very popular decision. So go on Sergio buy Sauber and put them out of their misery and make a huge section of F1 fans (many potential Alfa buyers in there) very happy....
the-concept-design-for-the-roborace-carAre driver-less race cars the future for F1?
  • No (91%, 310 Votes)

  • Yes (9%, 32 Votes)
Total Voters: 342
Our Verdict: Silly question but we asked it! Phoelix, one of our readers, summed up our sentiments on this one in the comments section: "Driverless cars = spectatorless stands."
