Stewards in Barcelona have rules in favor of Alpine and Pierre Gasly, rescinding the penalties which cost the Frenchman his Monaco Grand Prix podium.
Gasly was slapped with two five-second time penalties for speeding in the pitlane during the
Monaco Grand Prix last weekend which meant he lost the third place he took at the chequered flag with Red Bull Racing's Isack Hadjar inheriting the position.
However, the Alpine have decided to appeal the decision with the FIA stewards announcing on Thursday in Barcelona that the Enstone-based
Formula 1 team have present new evidence which made their application permissible.
A meeting was held on Thursday while another one took place today after which the stewards announced that both 5s time penalties have been rescinded with Gasly taking his third place back along with the points that come along with it.
Gasly will not be promoted from seventh to third and will get 15 championship points instead of 6.
Alpine issued a statement saying: “We welcome the decision made by the FIA to deem our Right of Review as admissible following the final classification of last weekend’s Monaco Grand Prix.
“As a result, the Stewards have rescinded the two five-second penalties imposed on Car #10, which reinstates the team’s third place finish.
“We would like to thank the FIA and Formula One Management for its transparency and co-operation throughout the Right of Review process and for reaching this decision.
“The team’s focus is now very much on this weekend’s Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix and striving for the best possible result with both of its cars," the statement concluded.
There were several penalties dished out in Monaco for the same transgression which gave the sense that something was wrong.
However, it was only Alpine who appealed the stewards decision at the time and have succeeded in removing the penalty.
