2025 promises to be a blockbuster year for
Formula 1. Six rookies are joining the grid,
Hamilton is heading to Ferrari, and Lando Norris vs. Max Verstappen — the rematch. And this is just a small taster of what’s to come. There’s so much for fans to look forward to.
Thanks to
F1 Fantasy, they don’t need to watch from the sidelines either. Once again, F1 is running a fantasy game alongside the real-life race calendar that gives fans the chance to flex their F1 knowledge and potentially win VIP Grand Prix tickets.
Even GP247 is getting in on the action this year. So you can follow all the latest goings-on with us while letting us know if you told us so! But before we dive into the details of our new league, let’s start by going through the rules for this season’s debutants.
How to play F1 Fantasy: The rules
F1 Fantasy lets you create three teams of drivers and constructors, which accumulate points each race based on their real-world performances. As well as finishing position, points will be awarded for the fastest lap, fastest pit stop, and more.
Different kinds of ‘chips’ can also be used to boost your points tally for a given weekend, for example, by blowing the budget cap. Speaking of spending limits, each player gets $100 million in imaginary money to spend on drivers and teams and two transfers for every race.
To spice things up a little more, F1 has also added a ‘DRS Boost’ where players can pick a driver to score double points for a given weekend. So choosing a driver like Lewis Hamilton, who has been prolific at the season-opening Australian GP, may turn out to be a wise choice!
If you played last year, there have been a few changes to the rules (not by the FIA, so we’re not expecting any issues with their implementation). There will be changes to how drivers are priced throughout the year; they’re now priced on their three-week rolling performance.
Each team will now also be marked on their fastest pit stop, as well as gaining extra points for setting a race or season-beating pace. Disqualifications will also be marked down against constructors rather than drivers — which should ease the pain of your driver breaking down!
Who should you pick for your team?
This is the $1 million (or $100 million) question. Everyone has their own personal favorites. But here are some of the top tips for potential bargains to keep you in budget.
As covered in our pre-season testing review, Williams looked quite good—Carlos Sainz in particular. At $13.1 million, Williams are a hell of a lot cheaper than McLaren ($30 million) to sign for your team. Sainz himself is also less than half the price of Lando Norris.
As you’d expect, Liam Lawson is over $10 million cheaper than Max Verstappen. But if that Red Bull is quick this season, the Kiwi could be one to watch. Then there are the likes of Pierre Gasly, Yuki Tsunoda, Fernando Alonso, and Esteban Ocon — all of whom have a history of pulling results out of the bag while driving unfancied cars.
If you’re looking for some statistical evidence, here’s what F1 has to say. Last year, the most popular team and driver pairing proved to be Mercedes and Norris. But it was Ferrari and Charles Leclerc that turned out to be the best ‘value for money.’ As a result, their prices have both gone up. So they may not offer the same return for players this time around.
Our league: Prizes & how to join
So, that’s the premise of the game and (some of) the drivers to watch. Each player can choose to enter a league with their friends or compete in global leaderboards, where F1 is offering a $100 F1 Store voucher each week and a grand prize of VIP tickets to the winner’s Grand Prix of choice in 2026. But these aren’t restrictive; you can join as many as you like.
To keep things interesting, GP247 is inviting our readers to join us throughout the campaign. We’ll be here each week breaking down where everything went right or wrong for our writers. Whether you choose to commiserate, gloat, or just dive into the comment section, we’re sure it’ll make for a fun addition to what’ll hopefully be an all-time classic F1 season.
To sign up, all you need to do is access this

F1 Fantasy returns for 75th anniversary season following record 2024
Formula 1’s official F1 Fantasy game has launched for the 2025 season, as drivers prepare to hit the track for the Formula 1 Louis Vuitton Australian Grand Prix 2025.
Last year, F1 Fantasy saw 1.5 million sign-ups, marking a record-breaking year for the game. The United States led the surge in new registrations, with a 25 percent year-on-year increase.
F1 Fantasy's audience growth mirrored the broader trends in Formula 1, with notable increases among younger and female fans. In 2024, 25 percent of registered players were female—up 24 percent from the previous year. Additionally, 77 percent of players were under the age of 35, with 46 percent falling within the 16-24 demographic.
How F1 Fantasy works
The game remains free to play, allowing participants to assemble a team consisting of five drivers and two constructors while adhering to a $100 million cost cap. Each week, players select a ‘DRS Boost’ driver, who will earn them double points, while a selection of special chips—including a triple point multiplier and a ‘limitless’ budget chip—offer additional strategic opportunities throughout the season.
Fans can create private leagues to compete against friends and family or join global and mini leagues to measure their performance against others worldwide.
Key updates for the new season include an adjustment to how driver prices fluctuate over the course of the campaign, along with modifications to point-scoring rules for pit stops and disqualifications.
Fans eager to test their strategy can sign up now and build their ultimate driver lineup for the 2025 season.
