Hamilton nominated for Laureus Sportsman of the Year

Five times Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton is one of six nominees for the prestigious 2019 Laureus Sportsman of the Year award, seeking to emulate rival Sebastian Vettel who was given the accolade in 2014.
Laureus announced on their site: "The votes are in and the world’s sports media have selected the highest achieving men, women and teams over the past calendar year as the Nominees for the 2019 Laureus World Sports Awards, the world’s pre-eminent international sports awards."
Nominees are: "Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton, Kenyan marathon world record-breaker Eliud Kipchoge, tennis world No.1 Novak Djokovic and NBA great LeBron James join FIFA World Cup Golden Ball winner Modric and FIFA Best Young Player Mbappé in what promises to be a hotly contested Laureus World Sportsman of the Year category."
Apart from Vettel, Michael Schumacher is the only other F1 driver to win the award when he was voted Sportsman of the Year in 2002 and 2004.
Roger Federer was 2018 Sportsman of the Year, the Swiss tennis ace is a five-time winner of the award.
Twelve-time world champions Mercedes, with whom Hamilton won his first fourth title last year, were nominated in the Team of the Year category: "After winning their fifth straight Formula One Constructors World Championship, Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team pick up their third nomination in a row for the Laureus World Team of the Year."
"Joining them are France Men’s Football Team in a category filled with world-beating teams are three-in-a-row Champions League winners Real Madrid, Winter Olympic medal table-toppers Norway Winter Olympic Team, NBA champions Golden State Warriors and the victorious European Ryder Cup Team."
