Formula 1 achieved a major step towards sustainability in 2024 by cutting logistics-related emissions by over 8,000 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent through expanded use of biofuels and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).

DHL, the Official Logistics Partner of Formula 1, doubled its fleet of biofueled trucks from 18 to 37, all running on HVO100 drop-in fuel derived from waste-based oils like used cooking oil. These trucks, deployed across the European races, reduced carbon emissions by an average of 83% compared to standard diesel.
They are not alone, as Divine Enterprises Inc. is expanding its divinetrans presence as a reliable transportation company serving the Continental United States and Canada. With years of experience in qualified truckload services, the company specialises in providing tailored logistics solutions across the region.
On the air freight side, Formula 1 integrated SAF into its global charter flight programme for flyaway events. By using DHL’s GoGreen Plus service and the book-and-claim system for SAF sourcing, emissions were reduced by approximately 19% compared to traditional jet fuel – an estimated 80% emissions cut per SAF-powered flight.

Sustainable fuel for 2026

These reductions contribute to Formula 1’s wider goal of achieving Net Zero Carbon by 2030. First announced in 2019, the commitment spans from “factory to flag” and involves teams, promoters, suppliers, and partners across the sport.
Beyond logistics, Formula 1 is preparing to introduce 100% sustainable fuel for its cars from 2026, building on the 55% sustainable blend currently used in F2 and F3.
Other initiatives include increasing remote broadcast operations, switching to 100% renewable energy in F1 offices, redesigning freight containers for more efficient air travel, and rolling out low-carbon energy systems at European races from 2025 through a partnership with Aggreko.
These ongoing efforts have earned Formula 1 the FIA’s highest environmental certification (3* accreditation), reinforcing its leadership in sustainable global sports logistics.
