Ollie Bearman topped this week’s F1 Fantasy standings alongside Mexican Grand Prix winner Lando Norris after a brilliant drive to a career-best fourth-place finish.
Amid a
chaotic race start, Norris tore off into the distance to secure a comfortable win and take the lead of the drivers’ championship for the first time since Saudi. Bearman, on the other hand, took advantage of the chaos to jump from ninth to an incredible fourth.
At one stage, the youngster even seemed on for a podium. In the end, he couldn’t hold off a charging Max Verstappen. But Bearman still seemed delighted with his showing, and he made up so many places in the race that he joined Norris on 36 points in F1 Fantasy.
Not everyone did so well out of the start. Team LH will be livid that Lewis Hamilton was the only one punished for going off-track in a flurry of overtaking action. This saw him hit with a 10-second penalty—dropping him to eighth for just 14 fantasy points. Not the boost his Ferrari career needed!
Before we get stuck into this week’s big winners and losers, don’t forget there’s still time to join the GP247 F1 Fantasy league
here. Now, let’s take a closer look at the aftermath of a fun-filled race.
Late VSC fails to spoil the party
In Mexico, there was plenty for fans to get their teeth stuck into. Verstappen eventually jumped Bearman in the pits before bearing down on Charles Leclerc. Were it not for a late VSC, the Dutchman would’ve almost certainly grabbed second. He was well worth his 26 F1 Fantasy points this weekend (and he’s not entirely out of the title race).
Piastri made hard work of it but eventually recovered from eighth to fifth to claim 25 in-game points and keep his own title chances alive. Mercedes made similarly hard work of their sixth- and seventh-place finishes by refusing to allow a faster George Russell past his teammate.
Ultimately, they did let him pass, but only when his chances of holding off Piastri were gone. Russell left fans with an iconic “I’ve got a McLaren up my a**” meme. However, the Silver Arrows didn’t do their new team leader any favors—he scored 23 fantasy points as a result.
For his part, Gabriel Bortoleto has had a very on-off season to date. But this was one of his better ones, as he scored a point from sixteenth, earning him 12 points in F1 Fantasy. Alpine also picked up a combined 13 in-game points. This was largely due to the retirements that took place behind them, but Mexico wasn’t the beleaguered team’s worst showing of the year.
Aston dip continues, Yuki anonymous (again)
As usual, F1 Fantasy punished non-finishers hardest—and there were plenty of victims in Mexico. Fernando Alonso struggled for pace throughout the race, and his weekend got worse when he was forced to retire halfway through. Liam Lawson, Nico Hulkenberg, and Carlos Sainz also suffered the same fate, with reliability issues seeing them hit with minus points.
True to form, Lance Stroll spun entirely on his own at the start. The Canadian then finished behind every other finisher except the Alpines. Yet, the peculiarities of F1 Fantasy’s point-scoring system meant that he earned 14 points (for overtakes). Yuki Tsunoda finished three places ahead in eleventh for three fantasy points, but he was nowhere near his more illustrious teammate once again.
Isack Hadjar also had a day to forget. He finished thirteenth after being picked off by midfield rivals like Esteban Ocon, who ended up finishing ninth. The
“Petit Prost” has been out of the points for the last three races; he’ll be hoping to bounce back next weekend in Brazil.
GP247 F1 Fantasy League Top 6
Yet again, our leader in the GP247 F1 Fantasy league is 44th Gear. But their lead has been cut by 50 points, marking a big shift in our title battle. Now, second place is occupied by Zinzan’s No.1 Army, who will be looking to mount a Verstappen-esque comeback.
Those looking to change things up over the final rounds should consider the likes of Alex Albon and Bearman. Statistically, they deliver more points on average than any driver not competing for Mercedes, Ferrari, Red Bull, or McLaren. At the front, Piastri and Russell offer the best value for money, delivering around 24 & 29 points each week, respectively.
If you’re looking to keep things entertaining between now and Abu Dhabi, feel free to join our F1 Fantasy league. Currently, there’s even a contest on the platform to
win signed, worn race gear from Russell’s personal collection. You can sign up for the GP247 league
