With over 100,000 books already sold in the first month, Kimi Raikkonen's authorised (auto)biography written by Kari Hotakainen is already a best-seller in his home country and soon Formula 1 fans can look forward to the English version which will hit the shelves next month on 18 October.
The sale of "Tuntematon Kimi Räikkönen" (
The Unknown Kimi Raikkonen) has surpassed best-selling sports book record in Finland set by the 2014 autobiography by the Nordic country's ice-hockey legend Teemu Selänne.
Hotakainen and Raikkonen, the 2007 Formula 1 world champion, spent a year working on the booking, including holding numerous long conversations with the Ferrari driver, both at his home in Switzerland and at Maranello
At the launch of the book on 16 August, the sport's most popular driver was his typical straight-shooter self when he said, "There will be people who like it and others who do not, I don't care."
The book features previously unpublished Raikkonen family album photos and focuses on his racing career from his early days in karts to his triumphs in Formula 1.
Invariably partying and boozing are a common thread throughout the book, including his remarkable 16-day binge in 2012 during the period between the races in Bahrain and Barcelona.
The book also reveals unknown personal quirks, including:
Raikkonen is dyslexic; he suffers from asthma and severe eczema; he listens to audiobooks; he wants to design a streetcar; he never answers the phone thus to contact him his friends always call his wife; his father had to moonlight to pay for his racing.
Or the time he got into hot water at an airport baggage collection for passing through the x-ray machine on the conveyor belt so he could see what he looked like inside!
Raikkonen will remain in Formula 1 as a driver until the end of 2020, spending his final two years where it all began at the 2001 Australian Grand Prix... with Sauber.
