It took Red Bull Racing 12 hours after the whole world knew to release a statement confirming that their Formula 1 team principal of 20 years, Christian Horner, was relieved of his duties and replaced with immediate effect by Laurent Mekies.
A working day after VCARB announced Mekies' departure and Alan Permane as their new team boss, the much-anticipated statement dropped into email boxes from Red Bull.
In a brief statement, Red Bull CEO Oliver Mintzlaff thanked Horner for two decades of leadership, praising his role in building the team into a top Formula 1 outfit. The statement marks a significant leadership shift for the team, closing the Horner era and ushering in new management ahead of major changes in the sport next year, amid the uncertainty of Max Verstappen's future with the team.
Oracle Red Bull Racing Team Statement
Oracle Red Bull Racing is pleased to confirm that Laurent Mekies has been appointed to the role of CEO and Team Principal of the Team with immediate effect.
Looking after all Formula One operational duties, Laurent joins Oracle Red Bull Racing from Visa Cash App Racing Bulls, where he has held the position of Team Principal since 2024.
