Technical Draft: Paul Ricard pre-race technical update

As the 2021 Formula 1 season continues the teams have arrived at Paul Ricard for the French Grand Prix armed with technical upgrades to see them through three weeks in a row of racing.

There is a noticeable drop in development upgrades being applied to cars by the teams at this stage of the year in comparison to recent seasons.

Obviously, the impacts of the operational cost cap and  the need to concentrate on the major regulation change for 2022 are being felt.

The following upgrades have been spotted on the cars this weekend.

Red Bull

Pre-event new Gearbox change for both cars

Pre-event new ICE change for both cars

Pre-event new turbo change for both cars

Pre-event new MGU-H change both cars

Pre-event new MGU-K change both cars

Pre-event new Exhuast System change for both cars

Lower downforce rear wing with new end plate design

Double rear ‘T’ wing added

Mercedes

Pre-event new Gearbox change for Hamilton

Pre-event new Energy Store change for Bottas

Pre-event new Control Electronics change for Bottas

Brake Magic button guard

Low downforce rear wing (double pilon)

Ferrari

Pre-event new Gearbox change for Sainz

Pre-event new Control Electronics change for both cars

Revised front wing with flaps extended outwards, shorter outboard stakes and new footplate curl

Lower downforce rear wing

Additional stakes to rear top edge of diffuser

Bargeboard change tested in FP1

Aston Martin

Pre-event new Gearbox change for both cars

New low downforce rear wing

Halo mounted aero vanes
