Both considered the 'bad boys' of Formula 1 - Romain Grosjean and Pastor Maldonado - now in the same Lotus team, survived contact during the Spanish Grand Prix and it appears they are not on the same page as they look back on the race.
Reflecting on the incident in Barcelona, Maldonado said, "I didn’t get a chance to speak to Romain because we both left immediately after the race. It was a very little touch. It happened but we move on, it’s all a part of racing."
Grosjean was clearly not amused, "In the race there was a small bit of contact between me and Pastor – the least said about that the better..."
Maldonado's rear wing end plate was knocked askew, and eventually the team retired his car. Grosjean went on to finish eighth.
The pair have history of being on the wild side when battling out on track, with Maldonado earning the nickname "Crashtor" and as a result of his numerous incidents now has a website dedicated to his crashes.
Grosjean appears to have improved from the days when he crashed dangerously in the first turn of the 2012 Belgian Grand Prix and was labeled a "First Lap Nutcase" by Mark Webber.
Grosjean was banned for a race that year as a result of his actions at Spa-Francorchamps.
Lotus team boss Federico Gastaldi, tasked with managing his drivers and their red mist, said, "Of course these things can happen and it is part of racing, even if it’s not ideal."
And added, "Drivers always want to be on the front and at the end they are competing. They take risks and sometimes we see situations like the one we saw in Barcelona occur."
The pair head to Monaco where they have had their share of drama, with Grosjean crashing out on the opening lap at the 2013 edition of the race.
Maldonado scored DNFs at the Principality in 2012 and 2103 as a result of incidents on track.
In 2005, during his time in the World Series by Renault Maldonado failed to slow down at the scene of an accident in Monaco, despite the presence of warning flags, whereupon he struck and seriously injured a marshal.
He received a lifetime ban by the Monegasque authorities which was since rescinded after a settlement was reached with the victim.
