Pirelli will remain Formula 1's exclusive tyre supplier until the end of the 2028 season after the FIA exercised an option to extend the current agreement by one year.
The extension secures Pirelli's role as
sole tyre supplier not only for Formula 1, but also for Formula 2, Formula 3 and F1 Academy through 2028, continuing a partnership that has been central to the sport's technical development for more than a decade.
Pirelli has been Formula 1's exclusive tyre supplier since 2011 and has been involved in the world championship since its inaugural season in 1950. The agreement comes as the sport adapts to a new generation of regulations introduced at the start of the 2026 campaign.
Formula 1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali welcomed the extension: "We've enjoyed an incredible history and partnership with Pirelli, relying on their technical brilliance and focus on performance, innovation, and sustainability for many years, so I'm delighted that the FIA and we will continue that relationship for another year.
"As we continue to push boundaries across the technical regulatory framework, Pirelli's commitment to quality gives all the teams and series it supplies peace of mind as they know they are working with some of the most advanced tyres in the world," Domenicali said.
The extension provides continuity during Formula 1's latest technical cycle, with the FIA and Formula 1 placing importance on stability as teams and manufacturers continue to develop under the new regulations.
Ben Sulayem: This extension through to the end of 2028 provides stability
FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayayem said: "Pirelli has been an important partner to the FIA Formula 1 World Championship for many years, providing a consistently high standard of performance, innovation, and safety at the highest level of our sport.
"This extension through to the end of 2028 provides stability for the championship and reflects the strong collaboration between the FIA, Formula One Group and Pirelli," added the FIA Chief.
Beyond its sporting role, Pirelli uses Formula 1 as a research and development platform, with technologies and lessons learned from Grand Prix racing feeding into road tyre development, sustainability initiatives and advanced manufacturing processes.
Pirelli Executive Vice Chairman Marco Tronchetti Provera said: "We are pleased to extend our presence in Formula 1 by a further year, until 2028. Formula 1 represents the best laboratory for us to innovate, test cutting-edge technical solutions, and continually improve research and development processes, for the benefit of tomorrow's road tyres."
The extension means Pirelli's uninterrupted spell as Formula 1's sole tyre supplier will reach 18 seasons by the conclusion of the 2028 championship.
