The Mercedes team has officially confirmed Qualcomm as a new official technology partner as it prepares to defend the Formula One world championship.
Qualcomm logos have featured on the team's new W06 car throughout winter testing in Spain, but the deal was officially confirmed on Monday.
Well-placed sources suggest the deal is worth a total of around US$9 million to the team, believed to a mix of cash and value-in-kind services.
According to Mercedes, the partnership will focus on 'improving overall race speed and car reliability, as well as operational and power efficiencies'.
Derek Aberle, the president of Qualcomm, which is already a major backer of the Formula E championship, said: "Qualcomm is committed to leading the connected car movement and bringing the results of mobile technology to automotive and we're excited to bring our technology leadership to a team within one of the most elite organisations in the automotive industry."
Mercedes begin the defence of their world titles at the Australian Grand Prix a week on Sunday.
