George Russell stormed to a dominant victory, while Fernando Alonso fought from fifteenth to seventh to brighten up an otherwise dull Singapore Grand Prix.

This week’s surprise F1 Fantasy top point scorers were closely followed by McLaren pair Lando Norris & Oscar Piastri. Despite their team winning back-to-back titles for the first time since the early 1990s, Norris and Piastri found themselves at the center of a controversial moment, when the former nearly ran the latter into the barrier in the opening corner.
Piastri wasn’t pleased, but the consensus seems to be that it was a fair (albeit aggressive) move. Lando outscored his teammate 25-19 in F1 Fantasy—and closed the gap by three points in real life. With McLaren Formula 1 Constructors' Champions, hopefully the gloves are now well and truly off between these two!
Elsewhere, Alonso was the star man in an incredibly mediocre race. Despite suffering a 9.2-second pit stop, the Spaniard mustered a huge late fightback into the points. F1 Fantasy actually provided a bit of further intrigue as cars bunched up towards the back of the grid.

Max-imizing on a tricky weekend

Russell might’ve stolen the headlines with a lights-to-flag victory, but Max Verstappen put in a sterling effort to grab second. The Dutchman held on despite his Red Bull being remarkably difficult to drive and the late pressure applied by Norris in a rapid McLaren.
Verstappen’s 27 F1 Fantasy points were only bettered by Russell (35) and Alonso (30), making it a pretty handy outing for this year’s drivers’ title outsider. Antonelli, who has enjoyed something of a recent resurgence, took home a tidy fifth for 17 game points.
Upon first glance, it seems a little weird that Lance Stroll earned ten in-game points for a thirteenth-place finish. But his defensive masterclass, backing up the field on clapped-out tyres so his teammate could catch up and overtake, was admirable. Alonso did plenty of screaming at his team on the radio, but Daddy’s Boy ended up playing him back into contention.
On paper, Ferrari did okay, picking up 33 F1 Fantasy points. However, they were comfortably outpaced by Mercedes and McLaren on race day. Lewis Hamilton also ended up completing the last lap with no brakes after an ambitious gamble on softs, attempting to pick up P5. In the end, he was pretty much out of control! A* for effort, F for application.

No respite for strugglers in Singapore

Formula 1’s backmarkers continued to struggle in the searing heat of Singapore. Alpine and Sauber traded blows at the back but never looked like troubling the point-scoring positions—Nico Hulkenberg’s spin was particularly costly, dropping him to 20th for -8 in-game points.
Though Yuki Tsunoda looked like he’d turned a corner in Azerbaijan, finishing sixth, his struggles continued at the Marina Bay circuit. Just 6% of all F1 Fantasy players chose him for this weekend, and you can see why; he earned just four points for twelfth place.
Isack Hadjar's reliability issues also cost him 3-4 tenths per lap, ruling him out of contention. But Ollie Bearman did surprisingly well, diving past Alex Albon for P9 and ten points in F1 Fantasy—an especially impressive feat considering his teammate finished down in eighteenth.
Williams also did fairly well, accruing a combined 14 fantasy points. That said, Albon was outscored by his teammate, and he costs twice as much. So, F1 Fantasy players should take note. After that massive podium in Baku, the Smooth Operator might well be back on track!

GP247 F1 Fantasy Top 6

Believe it or not, GP247’s F1 Fantasy league frontrunner has stretched their lead even further to a whopping 348 points. Picking both Verstappen and Russell turned out to be an inspired choice. With a double points bonus included, these two racked up 89 points on their own.
With Sammyed F1 Racing Team charging into second, the likes of Sauber and Ferrari let down our fantasy league’s other frontrunners badly this week. As it stands, the likes of Aston Martin, Williams, and Racing Bulls seem most likely to sneak a surprise result. Worth weighing up for the final six rounds.
The next circuit, COTA, is also more of an overtaking fest, which should bring more opportunities for backmarkers to shake up the order.
