While Mercedes chief Toto Wolff insists on being ultra-cautious in this American leg of the championship claiming that the title race is not over while trumpeting the virtues of his two drivers.
Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas have proven to be a very strong pairing for Mercedes, with the Briton top gun in the team and the Finn apparently content in the role of wingman. The pairing is on the verge of securing a fifth constructor's championship for Mercedes in as many years while their man in the #44 car is also very close to title number five himself.
Ahead of the United States Grand Prix, Wolff said of his drivers, "Two 1-2s in a row show how well both drivers are performing. With six race victories in the last seven races."
"Lewis has shown what a class act he is, both on and off the track he is more complete than ever before, showing commanding performance in the car and challenging the entire team to perform to higher levels at the same time."
"Valtteri had some tough races in the summer but came back strong in recent weeks. He was competitive in both Sochi and Suzuka and embodied our team spirit. We're lucky to have this driver line-up and we know can count on them as the season comes to its close," added Wolff.
The Silver Arrows lead the constructors' championship by 78 points from Ferrari, with Hamilton 67 points clear of Vettel in the drivers' championship.
