Claire Williams appears open to releasing Lance Stroll before the end of the season so that the young Canadian can join Force India which his father has bought with additional investment from a consortium of heavy hitter buddies.
It is quite clear that young Stroll will be at (Point Racing) Force India or whatever they call it next year but talk in the Spa paddock is that he could be in pink way sooner than that.
Stroll and his minders are saying little, the Canadian insisting he is focused on being with Williams for the foreseeable future, but newly promoted team principal Otmar Szafnauer did not deny the possibility of the teenager switching from Williams to his father's team before the end of 2018.
He said, "For the short terms it is the same two, what happens thereafter, it is not impossible to change, that’s for sure, but a lot of agreements would have to happen. I don’t know, it’s hard for me to predict for the future.”
Latest reports suggest that Williams would understand a bid to release Stroll from the team, and told reporters, "There are a lot of twists and turns in F1, aren’t there?"
"I think we’ve seen that over the past few weeks alone. So I think we’ll have to wait and see what the future brings. It might be odd if Lawrence owns one team with his son [driving] in another, but hey, this is F1."
"At the moment as I said Lance is contracted to us, he is driving for us this weekend, and as soon as we have more information, when we know, then we will share that," added Williams, suggesting a compromise could be in the pipeline.
Big Question: Should Williams release Lance before the end of the season?
