Lance Stroll was the first Formula 1 driver to have a taste the new "different" 2022 F1 cars, as Aston Martin had a shakedown for their AMR22 at Silverstone the next day after its launch on February 10.
Although F1 drivers have been going along with their business for years now, but it is always a special moment when a driver tries out his new car for the first time, and Lance Stroll is no different.
Speaking after his first outing in his 2022 ride, the AMR22, Stroll said: "It's a very exciting day. Today it's the first time we're trying out the new AMR22.
"It's nice to get behind the wheel after a few months away. And it's always a good feeling to get back in the car for the first time of the year.
New cars behave differently
"They're very different," the Canadian said of the new cars. "That's for sure,
they behave differently. But you know, hopefully the racing's really exciting this season with the new cars and gives an opportunity for all the teams to you know come up with some new ideas."
Stroll hailed the hard work done by the team over the winter to get the cars ready in time, and expressed how fulfilling it is to see the car come together.
"There's always a lot of effort that goes into preparing Formula 1 cars for the season you know, it's been a long winter for the guys at the factory, working very hard on finding every tenth that we can," he explained.
"It's always a nice feeling when you see it come together today for you know, the first time fire it up and get it out on the track.
"I hope we can compete up at the front you know, score some good points you know, and finish in a good position in the championship," the 23-year-old said of his season expectations.
"There's a long term vision for us you know, we still have a lot of things we got to work on, and focus on for the future.
"We'll, just take it one step at a time," Stroll - who enters his sixth season in F1 in 2022 - concluded.
Aston Martin suffered with the cars' floor regulations implemented in 2021, which resulted in a disappointing season, after a strong campaign in 2020 where they finished fourth in the Constructors' Championship under the Racing Point moniker.
