Spa 6-Hours: Alonso's #8 Toyota inherits pole position

Toyota Gazoo Racing #8 of Fernando Alonso, Sebastien Buemi and Kazuki Nakajima will start from top spot on the grid for Saturday's Total 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, despite ending the qualifying session in second place behind the sister car.
The #7 Toyota of Kamui Kobayashi and Mike Conway set a combined average lap of 1:54.488s to grab pole position.
However, all of the times were subsequently cancelled after the Fuel Flow Meter was incorrectly declared and the #7 TS050 will start the race from the pitlane.
The car was deemed by the stewards to have run with an incorrect declaration of Fuel Flow Meter which was a breach of Article 6.1.4 of the Sporting Regulations.
The #8 Toyota TS050 of Alonso, Buemi and Nakajima will now start the race from pole position, with the two Rebellion R13s in second and third, with Neel Jani and Bruno Senna finishishing as the best non-Hybrid entry in the #1 R13-Gibson.
The session was interrupted by two red flags. The first for the #17 SMP Racing BR Engineering BR1-AER causes red flag after stopping with a technical problem.
The second red flag caused by a heavy accident involving Pietro Fittipaldi, the 21-year old grandson of two times Formula 1 world champion Emerson Fittipaldi, at Eau Rouge at the wheel of the DragonSpeed BR Engineering BR1.
The session was delayed by 40-minutes as Fittipaldi received medical attention for suspected fractures to both legs and is transported to Liege hospital.
The FIA confirmed: "At 15:52 today, Friday 4 May 2018, the #10 DragonSpeed BR Engineering BR1 left the track at high speed at Raidillon, Circuit de Spa Francorchamps."
"The incident occurred during the LMP qualifying session for the 6 Hours of Spa Francorchamps. The car was being driven by Pietro Fittipaldi of Brazil."
"The driver, who was conscious at all times, was attended immediately by the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps Medical Services and FIA Medical Delegate Jacques Tropenat, extracted from the car and taken by helicopter to the Centre Hospitalier de la Citadelle de Liège with suspected fractures to both legs."
"He is accompanied by the DragonSpeed Team Manager and his condition is not life-threatening."
Signatech Take First LMP2 Point of Super Season
The #36 Signatech Alpine will start on pole in the LMP2 category after Nicolas Lapierre and Pierre Thiriet set a combined average lap of 2:02.405s.The 2016 champions are 0.1s ahead of G-Drive Racing car driven by Jean-Eric Vergne and Andrea Pizzitola and the #38 Jackie Chan DC Racing LMP2 car of Ho-Pin Tung and Gabriel Aubry will start third.
Ford Capitilise on Practice Pace to Secure LMGTE Front Row
Andy Priaulx and Harry Tincknell secured the first championship point of the season by taking pole position in the #67 Ford Chip Ganassi Team UK Ford GT for the first race of the Super Season at Spa-Francorchamps.The British duo posted a 2#12.947 average lap time, just 0.083s ahead of their teammates Olivier Pla and Stefan Mucke in the #66 Ford GT, with the #91 Porsche 911 RSR of Richard Lietz and Gianmaria Bruni just 0.004s behind the #66 Ford at the chequered flag.
The #92 911 made it an all Porsche second row, with the #82 BMW Team MTEK M8 GTE finishing ahead of the two Ferrari F488s, with world champions James Calado and Alessandro Pier Guidi back in 6th place 1.4 seconds behind the leading Ford.
Dempsey Proton Porsche Takes GTE Am Pole by Narrow Margin
The #77 Dempsey-Proton Racing Porsche of Matt Campbell and Christian Ried as the German/Italian pairing average 2:16.357s. Just 0.002 of a second separated pole sitters from the #98 Aston Martin Racing pairing of reigning champions Pedro Lamy and Paul Dalla Lana. Team Project 1 start their WEC programme well with third position.
