George Russell has made a splash off the track with the purchase of a $3-million (£2.2-million) Pershing 6X yacht, treating himself to a slice of luxury as his Formula 1 future with Mercedes remains undecided.
As contract talks with Mercedes linger and the F1 driver market erupts, Russell’s latest purchase of a Pershing 6X signals he’s ready to ride out the storm and has invested in a personal 'toy' joining some fellow drivers who are also yacht owners.
The luxury yacht, powered by twin MAN V12 1550mhp engines, can hit a blistering 48 knots. Its upper deck boasts a sprawling lounger and expansive decking, perfect for soaking up the sun between races.
“It’s a chance to switch off,” Russell told Sky Sports, perhaps hinting at the need for calm amid F1’s chaotic Silly Season.
The Pr spiel on the yacht describes "below deck, Russell's yacht is a haven of comfort. The master bedroom, complete with an en-suite bathroom, offers a plush retreat for the 27-year-old.
"A guest bedroom with a double bed and a giant mirror adds flair, while a third room with two single beds ensures space for friends or family on multi-day escapes." Whether it’s a post-race unwind or a weekend with mates, Russell’s got it covered.
The floating palace doesn’t skimp on extras
Also onboard, a compact kitchen caters to guests, and an onboard garage can house a jet ski for when Russell craves an adrenaline fix on the waves. It’s a setup that screams I made it in F1, aligning the Brit with an elite club of yacht-owning drivers.
Max Verstappen’s Mangusta Gransport 33 and Lewis Hamilton’s Sunseeker 90, both around $12.5-million, often spotted in Monaco’s glittering marina, set the standard. Fernando Alonso and Charles Leclerc also sail in this exclusive league.
Russell’s big spend comes at a pivotal moment. Mercedes boss Toto Wolff is playing it cool on extending Russell’s contract, with whispers that Max Verstappen’s next move could shake up the grid.
