It was a week packed with news and as result we sought reader opinions on a wide range of subjects with some very interesting results.
Is it a good idea for Red Bull to demote Daniil Kvyat and replace him with Max Verstappen?
  • Yes (56%, 1,037 Votes)
  • No (44%, 826 Votes)
Total Voters: 1,863
Verdict: Undoubtedly the news of the season thus far was the demotion of Daniil Kvyat and promotion of teenager Max Verstappen to the Red Bull senior team.
The move came out of the blue, although there was ongoing speculation that Kvyat would be dumped at the end of 2016. But the powers that be at Red Bull decided to act when they had an excuse to do so.
Most of our readers agree with the decision, but it is not a vast majority. In our office we are going to sit on the fence and watch this one unravel as Verstappen versus Daniel Ricciardo is one to watch!

Does MotoGP provide a better show than F1 currently?
  • Yes (80%, 474 Votes)
  • No (20%, 120 Votes)
Total Voters: 594
Verdict: Formula 1 will always be Formula 1 for us die-hard fans.We have endured decades of great racing, awesome rivalries and amazing characters. We have also endured periods of endless boredom, stupid rules and daft characters. But we love the sport and we stick to it because we are loyal.
At the same time there is absolutely no denying that MotoGP is a feast of racing and an immensely entertaining porting spectacle. Current Formula 1 could learn a great deal by studying exactly what makes MotoGP such a hit right now - a large majority of our readers agree.

Is Mercedes dominance hurting Formula 1?
  • Yes (61%, 375 Votes)
  • No (39%, 236 Votes)
Total Voters: 611
Verdict: When this question arises it is best answered with similar questions: Did McLaren dominance hurt the sport during the Senna-Prost era? Did Williams dominance hurt the sport during the Mansell-Piquet era? Did Ferrari dominance hurt the sport during the Schumi era? Did Red Bull dominance hurt the sport when Vettel dominated?

  • Lewis Hamilton (21%, 141 Votes)

Will cockpit protection spoil the spirit of future Formula 1 cars?
  • Yes (58%, 509 Votes)
  • No (42%, 374 Votes)
Total Voters: 883
Verdict: Of course closed cockpits or aero shield or roll bars or whatever will ruin the ethos of open cockpit formula cars. But at the same time maybe it is time for the ethos to change so that it evolve. Look at cars from the sixties and how they differed from those of the seventies and eighties and so on. It's called progress...
drugs
Are F1 drivers clean of performance enhancing drugs?
  • Yes (70%, 233 Votes)
  • No (30%, 100 Votes)
Total Voters: 333
Verdict: This was a random poll brought about by all the drugging going on in the world of pro sport. Drug taking in motor racing is not a new thing. There are tales of drivers taking cocaine during the fifties to enable them to wrestle the F1 monsters around Nurburgring for three hours or more, plus certain playboy drivers who were not immune to an occasional pre-race toke or two. Question is: what performance enhancing drugs would be effective for race drivers in this era?

Does Nico Rosberg deserve to be F1 world champion?
  • Yes (81%, 215 Votes)
  • No (19%, 49 Votes)
Total Voters: 264
Verdict: An overwhelming majority want Nico to do the business and win the 2015 Formula 1 world championship. The way he is going he thoroughly deserves it as his trouncing of the reigning champ is unprecedented and bordering on embarrassing. He will also make a good world champion because he is an all around good guy.
ValtteriBottasF1GrandPrixMexico27V2ueq1I07x-001
Has Valtteri Bottas done enough to deserve a Mercedes drive?
  • No (84%, 654 Votes)
  • Yes (16%, 121 Votes)
Total Voters: 775
Verdict: Our sentiment is that Valtteri Bottas has done little to justify the hype that he is an heir apparent to Kimi Raikkonen's drive at Ferrari, or a candidate for a Mercedes drive in the future. He has hardly got the better of veteran Felipe Massa at Williams, and let's face it the Brazilian has not been stellar for several years. It appears we are not alone in our judgement of Bottas as our readers have the same impression.
