Lewis Hamilton will take part in the 2026 Formula 1 preseason test in Bahrain with a new race engineer supporting him from the Ferrari pit wall.
Ferrari has announced that Riccardo Adami, the engineer who worked with Hamilton in his first year with the team, would move on to another role, and at the time of the announcement, no replacement was appointed.
The change did not come as a surprise, as it was clear there was no chemistry between Hamilton and Adami, a fact that was clear from the awkward or tense radio communication the whole world listened to over the course of the 2025 F1 season.
But now, it appears that
Carlos Santi will be the replacement of Adami, and he is no stranger to Ferrari, as he engineered Kimi Raikkonen there before.
Speaking to the media in Bahrain, Hamilton was asked about the changes; he responded: “It was obviously a very difficult decision to make.
"I'm really grateful for all the effort he [Adami] put in last year, and his patience, and, you know, it was a difficult year for us all," he added.
Commenting on his new engineer, the seven-time F1 Champion said: “Early on into the season, it's going to be switching up again, working with someone new; that's what you need to look forward to.
"It would be ideal to start the season with people with whom you have done multiple seasons and that have been through thick and thin. But at the moment this is the situation we have.
"It is a situation that affects me as well, trying to do the best I can—we are trying to do the best we can," Hamilton concluded.
While Santi is now handling Hamilton's engineering, it is reportedly not yet confirmed that he will remain with the Briton on a permanent basis.
Hamilton added: "It's actually quite a difficult period because it's not long-term, the solution that we currently have, it's only going to be a few races."
