The 2026 24 Hours of Le Mans is heading towards a dramatic conclusion with Cadillac, BMW and Toyota locked in a fight that looks certain to be decided in the final hour after a day and night of relentless action at Circuit de la Sarthe.

Cadillac Hertz Team JOTA's #12 V-Series.R emerged as the car to beat through the night, surviving the mechanical heartbreak suffered by its sister #38 entry, which had been battling for the lead before losing significant time in the garage. Norman Nato, Will Stevens and Louis Delétraz kept the surviving Cadillac firmly in contention as dawn broke over Le Mans.
BMW's #20 M Hybrid V8 refused to let the American marque escape. Despite earlier damage and repairs following contact during the night, the German manufacturer remained within striking distance, using strategy and tyre choices to stay in the hunt for what would be its first overall Le Mans victory in more than 25 years.
Toyota also remained a major threat. The #8 GR010 Hybrid climbed from 15th on the grid into contention through clever strategy and relentless pace, while the #7 machine charged through the field after an eventful opening half of the race. A mistake by Brendon Hartley briefly handed momentum to Cadillac, but the Japanese giant remained firmly in the battle.

Ferrari's hopes took a major hit

Ferrari's hopes took a major hit shortly after midnight when the #50 499P lost 28 minutes in the pits due to a fire extinguisher system problem, dropping it several laps behind. The reigning winners from AF Corse remained in contention for a strong finish but faced an uphill task to challenge for victory.
Alpine quietly established itself as an outside contender, with the #35 A424 holding a top-five position thanks to strong tyre management during the cooler overnight conditions. Genesis also impressed on its Le Mans debut, showing reliability and pace despite setbacks for the #19 car.
In LMP2, Duqueine Team continued to lead a closely fought category battle against Inter Europol Competition, while TF Sport's #33 Corvette commanded LMGT3 after a strong night stint ahead of Aston Martin and Lexus rivals.
With seven Hypercars still on the lead lap deep into the race and strategy, traffic and reliability all still capable of changing the outcome, the 94th running of Le Mans appears destined for a grandstand finish. One mistake, one slow stop or one mechanical issue could yet decide who lifts endurance racing's greatest prize.
