Funny how the web works and fake news spirals into false reality as forced denials foment credibility to incredibly stupid reporting, such as the tale that Eddie Jordan sprung on us to trumpet his return to the Formula 1 paddock...
[Is it only me or did others notice he had gone quiet?]
Needless to say, the charismatic former F1 team boss had us in stitches with his most recent Crystal Ball moment claiming Lewis is off to Ferrari, with Max and Seb (who would want Seb right now) to lead the Silver Arrows...
We reported this shortly before the race at Silverstone as a funny read before things got serious for our readers.
However, afterwards watching the story go viral was an eye-opener as other sites were quickly onto the Italian sites that were reporting English Channel 4 quotes by Jordan which the English-language media did not latch onto. Go figure!
Of course, sites descended on our Italian source, copy-pasted into Google translate to get pretty much what we reported but the 'intrepid journo' at the other end got an additional tidbit in that piece, namely that Jordan had also (apparently!) predicted: McLaren would ditch Renault for Mercedes!
And they reported that as part of HAM-VER-VET to FER-MER fantasy by Jordan adding the Mclaren bit, but in fact, F1's Nostradamus had in fact made this prediction in 2017 claiming it would be happening for 2018 - and the original article stated as much in a catalogue of Jordan's failed prevision.
That same year Jordan 's Crystal Ball was clearly malfunctioning, so much he claimed did not happen, which inevitably raises the question is the Irishman an attention-seeking 'Village Idiot' - as Ron Dennis once put it - or 'Well Connected Insider' committed to his job as a pundit and to sharing what he knows with F1 fans?
I digress...
Meanwhile, the latest story was soon picked up by other sites from the English version with the two-year-old Macca-to-Merc faux pas which prompted Andreas Seidl to deny it all!
Hence two-year-old news goes viral because some 'journo' can't use Google translate!
Seidl made it more than clear when asked about such a swap, "I have said many times that we have an excellent and transparent relationship. Renault's progress compared to last year is one of the reasons for our success. But our relationship concerns only the power unit. We have an independent team and we want to stay like that."
"I have said many times that we have an excellent and transparent relationship. Renault's progress compared to last year is one of the reasons for our success Right now we are fully focused on working with Renault and are pleased with our cooperation," added Seidl not sounding like a guy seeking a divorce, but quite the contrary.
Finally, in a-not-really-related-Eddie-Jordan-note, due to his status in our sport - Google him if you are not sure - his quotes will always find a place where no matter how outrageous because of all the F1 legends Eddie would be high on the list to have a several beers with.
Or put it this way: When F1 creates a long-overdue Hall-of-Fame, our man Eddie will be in there for sure.
