After the Russian Grand Prix last month Lewis Hamilton was 43 points adrift of his Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg, fast forward three races and right now the reigning Formula 1 world champion is a mere nine points away from top spot in the standings.
And after his second win in a row Hamilton wants more, "I need to win every race. I want to win every race. It is not a need, it is a desire and it has shown once again I am just as focused as any of the guys here."
After his fifth victory in Canada, his second of the season, Hamilton reflected, "I didn't make any mistakes and that's comforting to see that focus and being that confident and comfortable in the car."
The remarkable turnaround has come after the first five races of the season were packed with problems and niggles for the Briton, "There has never been a doubt this year in terms of my speed, or what I can do in the car, not at all. There was one problem after another. Of course you never know what can happen next. "
Hamilton admitted to The Times that he was wary of his dwindling engine quota, "I know l have fewer engines. I know beyond the break it is likely l will need to take a sixth engine. I know that at some stage l am going to start last and that joker that will come along and play an integral part at a race weekend."
One glaring issue that surfaced in Montreal was that the Mercedes duo were tardy off the line at the start. After the race Hamilton was clearly bewildered by how Sebastian Vettel, starting from the second row, made easy work of getting by both Silver Arrows before Turn 1.
"The start was... I don’t understand it. This time I really don’t understand because practices have been good, the formation lap was amazing, dropped the clutch and the thing pulled away perfectly," recalled the triple F1 world champion.
"This clutch is definitely catching us out. We are going to investigate why. It is not the first time that it has been like that. They don't quite understand it so we have to work on it," revealed Hamilton.
