Gene Haas, boss of F1's newest team Haas, claims that the sport is harder than he first thought and attributes his team's early success to beginner's luck.
Speaking to F1i Haas said, "It seems like it’s getting harder. I think we had a lot of beginners luck there where we were able to capitalise on other people’s mistakes."
"They’re making less mistakes so we are not looking as strong as we did in the beginning. So now we have to get back to earning our points instead of having someone give it to us."
Haas were sensational in the early part of the season as they scored 18 points in the first two rounds of the season, signaling their arrival in fine fashion. But, as the regular teams found their feet the battle in the lower midfield intensified and got tougher.
"Trying to strategise where we need to be, it’s a really tough competition," explained Haas. "It seems like the back has come up and the front is farther out. So I think we need to kind of capitalise on other people’s mistakes."
"It’s kind of an eye-opener, you have to have a different kind of strategy if you’re going to try and beat your competition when everybody is so equal," added Haas.
