George Russell was gutted following his retirement from the 2026 Canadian Grand Prix, and understandably so after he had done everything right until that point.

Russell took pole for both the Sprint Race and the Grand Prix in Canada. And while he won the Sprint, we can only wonder if he could've delivered the perfect weekend with a win on Sunday as well.
Asked about his feelings after the race, Russell said: “Disbelief. It feels like somebody doesn't want me to fight or compete for this championship.
“Three out of the last five races there's just been something really going against us. [I’m] just a bit lost for words right now," he added.
Up until his Mercedes decided to call it a day, Russell was battling hard with teammate Kimi Antonelli for the win.
“I loved the battle,” he reflected. “I was happy with how I handled it, how I drove, and I'm just pleased with the weekend in terms of my own personal performance.
“Hard battles—I really loved the battle, and I wanted to continue for 30 more laps. I would have loved to see how it would have panned out, but here we are," the Briton lamented.
Explaining the failure he suffered, the Mercedes driver told Sky Sports F1: "Just everything turned off all of a sudden. Engine stopped, no electronics. A bit lost for words. What else could I have done?
"I'm proud of my weekend," he insisted. "Pole in the Sprint, won the Sprint, pole, leading when I stopped. Nothing more I could have done this weekend. I'm pretty damn frustrated with what happened.
"I leave satisfied. I am pretty satisfied for what has happened," Russell concluded.
After his Canadian Grand Prix DNF, Russell now finds himself 43 points behind Antonelli in the 2026 Formula 1 Drivers' Championship.
