Ericcson pays tribute to Super Swede Peterson at Monaco

Caterham rookie Marcus Ericsson will be using a replica Ronnie Peterson helmet in honour of his late countryman, Formula 1's original Super Swede.

Forty years ago Peterson won the 1974 Monaco Grand Prix at the wheel of a Lotus 72E. He was a favourite of F1 fans for his laid back demeanour which defied his blistering pace on track.

He wore a distinctive blue helmet with yellow trimming, with long time sponsors Vicks emblazoned on the visor area.

Peterson was a two-time runner-up in the Formula 1 drivers' world championship, winning 10 races during his career. He died following a crash on the first lap of the 1978 Italian Grand Prix at Monza while driving for Lotus. (GP247)
