Ferrari's Charles Leclerc said it was too early to judge his team's 2026 Formula 1 car, the SF-26, after its shakedown at Fiorano.
Ferrari
revealed the livery of their SF-26 online last week and immediately performed a shakedown at their private Fiorano track with both Lewis Hamilton and Leclerc taking turns driving the new Red Car.
Leclerc spoke to the media after the shakedown, which was done under the eager eyes of the Tifosi, who watched from outside the track fences.
“I’m definitely looking forward to this day every year," he said of his impressions. "However, it’s the kind of day where the main target is to check that everything is working properly and that there are no big problems, which was the case today, so that is a positive.
"But in terms of performance, in terms of feeling, it’s too early to say," he added. "The conditions weren’t that great either.
"There’s a lot of fog, a little bit of a wet track as well, so it’s not the best conditions to test a car for the first time.
"But I was very excited because there’s been so much talk and so much work behind the scenes in order to get to that moment ready and so that the car could obviously go around the track normally and check for the first time the real sensors on the car to see whether it was doing the things that we expected," he explained.
Ferrari were not among the teams that kicked off the private Barcelona shakedown on Monday, January 26.
The test will be held over five days, with each team allowed three days of running. Ferrari will start their running on the second day.
However, the Scuderia should be getting some power unit data, as Haas and Cadillac—who use Ferrari power—were part of the action on day one in Barcelona.
