Arvid Lindblad did not have the best of starts to his Formula 1 career, as he binned his new car, the Racing Bulls VCARB 03, during a shakedown held at Imola.
Racing Bulls
revealed their 2026 F1 car livery in an event held in Detroit last week and went on to give their car a shakedown at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola which is close the the team's Faenza base.
Liam Lawson was at the shakedown and was the first of the Racing Bulls drivers to take the car out on track, which was not a straightforward process, as the team faced some teething issues with their new car, which is powered by a Red Bull-Ford power unit.
After watching his teammate do the initial running in the VCARB 03, Lindblad jumped into the car and took it out only to spin at the Villeneuve chicane and end up beached in the gravel.
It was not clear the extent of the damage to the VCARB 03, which was sporting the livery revealed in the launch event in Detroit, but the team had to get back to the pits on a recovery vehicle.
The shakedown was held in wet conditions with Pirelli's full wet demonstration tyre bolted to the VCARB 03.
The team plan to conduct a filming day at Imola following their shakedown as they gear up for the five-day closed test at Barcelona, which will be held between January 26 and 30, where each team is allowed three days of running.
The next step will be the official pre-season test in Bahrain. The first between February 11 and 13. The second is between February 18 and 20.
The first race of the season will be the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne, which will take place on March 8.
