While we had to endure the cringe-inducing LEGO minicars Formula 1 drivers' parade at the British Grand Prix, here is a way for Stefano Domenicali and Co. to make it a great idea.
Having such marketing stunts held at such a classic Formula 1 venue as Silverstone hurts more than seeing the abominations drivers are having to pilot in 2026 going painfully slow at Copse, Maggots, Becketts...
And while our stance here at GrandPrix247 is clear on the LEGO thing,
Editor in Chief Paul Velasco's open letter to Formula 1 drivers says it all.
But since we have to entertain Formula 1's unnatural collaboration with global entertainment brands—Mickey Mouse and Disney are coming next—let's try and turn them into a positive experience.
Formula 1 claimed starting the collaboration with LEGO was about engaging kids with the sport, so instead of having the 22 best drivers in the world clowning around in LEGO minicars with the sport's CEO and the FIA President taking part, consider this idea.
Over the course of the weekend, select boys and girls from the crowd and grant them a chance of driving a LEGO minicar.
To make it more interesting and while involving Formula 1 drivers in the exercise, each kid chosen to drive a minicar with a certain team livery on it will get to meet a driver of that team and get instructions from him.
For example, a kid in a Red Bull-liveried LEGO minicar will get to meet either Max Verstappen or Isack Hadjar.
Just imagine how these kids will feel when they meet their heroes while also getting a chance to be part of a Formula 1 race weekend and driver a LEGO minicar. They will be living the dream.
And this exercise can be applied at every race weekend on the calendar, and I doubt any Formula 1 driver will be reluctant to take part.
