In this latest episode of NewsDesk Unplugged, Paul Velasco and Jad Mallak discuss the new McLaren F1 livery for the forthcoming Formula 1 World Championship season.
McLaren
unveiled their 2024 livery ahead of their rivals, presenting the MCL37's colours for the year ahead today. Papaya and Black dominate on the car, with a tip to their illustrious history with the Marlboro-style chevron in front of the cockpit and flashes on the sidepods.
Lando Norris said of the new look for his ride: "The new livery looks great with the inclusion of segments from last year’s enhancements, I’m sure the fans will love it as much as me.
Piastri added his bit: “The 2024 livery looks really cool and I’m looking forward to racing in the iconic colours of McLaren for a second season."
Jad said of the new livery: "I'm so happy with the fact that they brought back the Papaya. There's a lot of black and lots of [sponsor branding] colours in there.
"The problem is that it's you feel today's liveries are more about sponsors and carbon fibre, where they're not painting the cars to keep them light, more than it is about the team's identity. I was hoping to have it a bit more Papaya on the car and less Black," added the Ferrari tifoso.
Long-time McLaren fan, Paul shared his thoughts: "Now that McLaren are up on the rise, I think they've gone in the right direction. This is a beautiful livery. And I'm really proud as a fan that McLaren is where it is today.
"To me, it feels like a very different team, a brand new team. It's like a little Junior popping out of the old McLaren of Ron Dennis vintage. I like the way it's going. And I think it's a very positive-looking livery. Orange [aka Papaya] and black. It's a home run by Zak Brown and
our team for me."
Of course, they both said a great deal more in the video!
