Sebastian Vettel is not so keen on the Las Vegas Grand Prix set to join the Formula 1 calendar in 2023, and revealed he would have preferred Bathurst.
F1 is continuing its push to have more races in the United States, and in addition to the races in Miami and Austin this year, Las Vegas will be the third American venue to join the sport's calendar in 2023.
However, quadruple F1 Champion Sebastian Vettel is not enthralled about Vegas and said he would rather visit New South Wales in Australia, and race at the Bathurst 1000, at the Mount Panorama Circuit, that hosts the famous event for V8 Supercars every October.
Speaking in an event for Aston Martin fans, Vettel was asked about Las Vegas and he responded: "I've already been there, and I didn't like it very much.
"I think it's too crowded and people misbehave," he added. "There is nothing against bad behavior, as long as you don't overdo it.
"Las Vegas seems to be a hotspot for people who go too far when it's no longer fun," the German stated.
Use money planned to build Vegas track to improve existing one
"I would prefer to go to Bathurst," the Aston Martin driver admitted. "You could take the money invested for Las Vegas to other big circuits that already exist."
The winner of 53 grands prix praised the challenge posed by Mount Panorama, a place he said he always wanted to try.
"It would be a real challenge," he said. "Also because I think that track is monstrous. I've never been there, but one day I hope to be able to try it."
However, there might be a problem for F1 to race at Mount Panorama Circuit, as the track is not a Grade 1 facility, a prerequisite for any venue to host an F1 race, not to mention the big number of qualified circuits fighting for dates on the sport's calendar, making
alternating venues an option that Formula One Management are looking at.
