Guenther Steiner believes that his team in Kannapolis will produce a strong car for the 2019 season, aiming to keep the upward mobility of Formula 1's only American team.
Under Steiner the team has gone from strength-to-strength, regularly punching above their weight, and more often than expected 'Best of the Rest' behind the big three teams.
In their F1 debut season in 2016 the team finished eighth, and a year later were again eighth but last year the VF-18 was a good piece of kit and they were fifth in the constructors' championship, only beaten by the factory teams and Red Bull,
Speaking to
Ekstra Bladet, Steiner gave an update on the VF-19, "When I look at the numbers I'm sure we have a good car. But even last year I wouldn't predict without knowing how good the others are, because I don't know. But we are happy with what we see."
"However, especially considering the new rules, has anyone found something that we are not aware of? How do I know? But like last year I feel convinced that we are doing a good job."
Asked if going one better was the next target, Steiner replied, "Everyone wants to go for that position or even better. We do, too. We have to do a good job over the winter, as we did last year, and make a good car. There are no secrets."
"Everyone is trying to move up a position. If anyone had told you a year ago that Haas would finish fifth, no one would have believed it..." recalled Steiner.
Haas are only one of two teams (Mercedes the other) that have retained both their drivers from last year - Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen - for 2019 while continuing their strong association with engine supplier Ferrari.
