Jose Maria Lopez sets the fastest lap of the day with a 1:38.536 lap in the #7 Toyota Gazoo Racing TS050 Hybrid, the former World Touring Car Champion shaved 1.4 seconds from the FP1 best earlier in the day, 1.357 seconds ahead of the no8 Toyota.
Lopez said, The first day went well for us but it’s still just the beginning; it is a long weekend so we have to keep working hard. We focused on getting ourselves ready for the race and understanding the traffic. From my side I am quite happy."
"I didn’t drive so much today because of the red flags in the first session but I did the fastest lap in second practice which shows the car is good," added Lopez who shared duty in the no7 car with Mike Conway and former F1 driver Kamui Kobayashi.
Fernando Alonso, in the sister no8 car, said at the end of the day, "It’s great to be back here at Silverstone and it has gone well today; we had two clean and trouble-free sessions so we managed to put in plenty of laps. This meant we got lots of information about the tyres and set-up."
"Now we have to look at the data and optimise everything before qualifying so we are in the best possible position," added Alonso who with teammates Sebastien Buemi and Kazuki Nakajima have won the first two rounds of the WEC, including the Le Mans 24 Hours.
SMP Racing showed improved pace as Egor Orudzhev sets 1:40.179 lap to go P3 in the no17 BR01-AER, with the no3 Rebellion fourth, just ahead of local hero and F1 world champion Jenson Button in no11 SMP Racing BR1-AER.
Rebellion’s Bruno Senna will miss rest of weekend after sustaining an ankle injury in FP1 accident at Copse Corner.
British driver Harry Tincknell finished on top in the LMGTE Pro in no67 Ford GT with a fastest time of 1:56.898 with the no97 Aston Martin driven by Alex Lynn just 0.12 os a second behind. The no66 Spa winning Ford GT of Mucke and Pla is fourth, while Marco Sorensen is fifth in no95 Aston Martin.
Young French talent Gabriel Aubry heads LMP2 for Jackie Chan DC Racing with a best lap of 1m45.311, while the championship-leading Signatech Alpine entry places second ahead of TDS Racing ORECA.
Matteo Cairoli once again sets the pace in LMGTE Am with a 1:59.105 best in No.88 Dempsey Proton Porsche, the young Italian eclipsing Pedro Lamy’s 1:59.378 lap set earlier in session in the no98 Aston Martin Vantage.
The third Free Practice session is scheduled for 09h00 on Saturday morning.
