A week after a sell out at the Belgian Grand Prix, Formula 1 have confirmed that another record crowd turned out for the Italian Grand Prix, where 185,000 fans went through the turnstiles during the course of the weekend.
Figures distributed by Formula 1 confirmed that a record 185,000 spectators were at Monza during the course of the weekend to watch, which is up 32.8 per cent on 2016 attendance figures, and a 15.7 per cent increase on the previous attendance record at the venue that dates back to 2000 during the Michael Schumacher era.
F1 commercial chief Sean Bratches said, "It's the first time I've attended the Italian Grand Prix and I was amazed by the incredible passion of the crowd, which had come to Monza from all corners of the globe."
"The record numbers confirm just how much Formula 1 captures people's imagination. An increase of a third over the 2016 crowds and a 15.7 per cent improvement over the previous record are incredible numbers."
"I would like to say a special thank you to everyone who sat out in the grandstands in the pouring rain on Saturday, waiting for the track conditions to improve enough for F1 qualifying and the F2 race to be run.
"This passion is a great incentive to work harder still to put on an even better show for the fans who follow this sport all over the world," added F1 commercial boss Bratches.
