During Formula 1 season, nothing is more fun than sitting in front of the TV and enjoying a race with your family or closest friends.
If you really want to make the experience complete, though, you need to add refreshments – and we’re going to give you some suggestions for that in this guide.
You can always order pizza, and we can guarantee that your guests will be completely happy. We say, though, that watching a race is always a great excuse to “go the extra mile.” If you really want to wow your guests, try these can’t-miss refreshments on race night.
Sandwich Spread
Sandwiches must be just about the ultimate race food. They’re filling enough that your guests definitely won’t have to be hungry while they watch the race, but they’re also light enough that no one will go home feeling overstuffed and weighed down.
If you want to serve a sandwich spread on race night, there are two ways to go about it. One requires a little money, and the other requires a little effort.
- You can call a local restaurant and have them cater an assortment of sandwiches for you. In this case, there’s basically no work required on your part. You can spread the sandwiches on a large plate, and your guests can help themselves.
- If you want to get fancy, you can also make an assemble-it-yourself sandwich spread on your own. Just get some bread and some sliced meats and cheeses along with an assortment of toppings like mustard, mayonnaise, pickles, lettuce and tomatoes. Whenever your guests get hungry, they can simply assemble their own sandwiches however they want.
Nachos goes with everything
Is there any party food that’s more fun than nachos? If there is, we’ve never heard of it. Nothing is quite as fun as digging into a big communal plate of cheesy, salty goodness, and we’ll explain how to make the best nachos you’ve ever had.
- Buy a large disposable foil roasting pan. That way, you won’t have to worry about dishes when you’re finished.
- Gather your ingredients. At minimum, you’ll need chips and cheese – but why stop there? Other great ingredients for nachos include beans, sliced jalapenos, sour cream, diced tomatoes and avocados or guacamole.
- Assemble the nachos in the roasting pan by building layers of chips, cheese, beans and jalapenos. Save the other ingredients for later because they’re best if they’re not cooked. Use more cheese than you think you need. Before the cheese is melted, it always looks like there’s more than there actually is.
- Cover the pan with parchment paper and foil. The layer of parchment paper will help to prevent the top layer of cheese from sticking to the foil. You can do this and all of the previous steps the night before and cook the nachos the next day if you like.
- When you’re ready to cook, take any cold ingredients such as sour cream, tomatoes, hot sauce and avocados or guacamole and leave them out to come up to room temperature. These ingredients will taste best if you don’t cook them, but you also don’t want them to be so cold that they draw the heat out of the nachos.
- Put the pan in the oven and bake the nachos until the cheese is thoroughly melted and hot. When the nachos are done, remove the foil and continue cooking for a few extra minutes if you want the cheese to be browned.
- Top the nachos with the cold ingredients and let your guests help themselves.
If you want to make your nachos extra special, use a few authentic Mexican cheeses. Some
popular Mexican cheeses for melting include Asadero, Manchego and Oaxaca. Of course, you can always throw in some old standbys like cheddar and Monterey jack.
Vapes
In any large enough group of race lovers, at least a few people will be smokers. F1 races are fast and furious, though, and your guests won’t be happy to step away for even a minute – no matter how bad their nicotine cravings might get. To keep the smokers in your group satisfied, grab some vapes by
Raz Vape or another well-known brand and pass them out before the race starts. Who knows – some of the smokers in the group might find that they enjoy vaping enough to quit smoking entirely.
Finger Food Assortment
When you consider your snack options for race night, you may ultimately come to the conclusion that making a big pan of nachos or plate of sandwiches feels like too much work. If that’s the case, here’s another option that’s much quicker but still gives your guests the ability to help themselves and eat what they want, when they want: You can serve an assortment of finger foods.
If you want to go this route, head over to your local deli and grab a selection of sliced meats and cheeses. Arrange them on a platter along with some crackers or small slices of bread. Once that’s done, assemble a second plate with cut vegetables like carrots, celery and cauliflower along with some dip. Pickles might also be a nice addition.
Although no one would say no to a nice cheese-and-charcuterie board along with an assortment of vegetables, those items might come off feeling more like food than snacks on their own – and race night is all about enjoying some tasty munchies with your family or friends.
If you want to assemble an assortment of finger foods that’ll really feel special – along with providing a sweet counterpoint to the salty meats and cheeses – try making your own cinnamon-roasted almonds just like they do at the mall. Here’s how to do it.
Make your own edible goodies
- Grab a pound of raw almonds along with an egg white, some vanilla extract, about a cup of sugar, a teaspoon of salt and plenty of freshly ground cinnamon. Preheat your oven to 250 degrees. Get a foil baking pan and oil it liberally.
- Combine the egg white and vanilla extract and whisk the two together until they’re foamy.
- Add the almonds and mix everything thoroughly.
- Add the cinnamon, sugar and salt and make sure that everything is well combined.
- Spread the almonds evenly on the pan.
- Bake the almonds for one hour, stirring every 15 minutes.
Your guests will love the almonds if they’re served hot, but they’re also great at room temperature – so feel free to make them in advance.
