Formula 1 legend Alain Prost has sold his stake in Renault e.dams, the Formula E team he co-founded with Jean-Paul Driot, to focus his attention on his role within the Renault Formula 1 programme.
Prost, a special adviser to the Renault F1 team, insists that the sale was prompted by the strain he was taking trying to be involved in both series' which in the end was too much for him.
He told L'Equipe, "It was difficult to do everything with Formula E and F1, even physically with all the travelling."
"It turns out that when Renault made the decision to focus on F1, it made sense that I follow with about the same timing."
As for where Renault is this year in terms of their F1 ambitions, Prost said, "We are about where we thought we would be. It's a first step, and the second one starts now."
Despite ending his involvement in Formula E, Prost remains a big supporter of the all-electric series, "I keep a very positive opinion of Formula E! I remain co-chairman of the new strategic committee whose mission is to plan for its future."
"I want to keep an eye on its evolution. I was interested in the electric car even before the creation of the Championship (2014-2015), from 2010 and the first tests, the initial project of Eric Barbaroux and Pierre Gosselin," added Prost.
Renault e.dams, under the leadership of Prost and Droit, have won all three Formula E teams' championships, while their driver Sebastien Buemi claimed the title in the 2015-16 season.
